Why am I asked to create a new LoginName when I log into Advanced Mining?
What is LoginName?
Why do I need to log in with LoginName instead of MemberID?
Due to security issues around using MemberID as a login ID to log in to Advanced Mining services, we added a method for members to create their own unique and custom ID to use as a replacement. This is called LoginName.
This LoginName is chosen by each member and needs to be:
- unique (if another member already reserve it, you need to choose another)
- Between eight and fifteen characters
- Must have at least one alphabetical character (a-z)
- Must have at least one numerical character (0-9)
- May optionally contain special characters from these choices of three:
- . (dot or period)
- - (dash, minus sign, or hyphen)
- _ (underscore)
You can use any combination that makes it unique and not already saved by another member. In the example used in this article's screenshots, "free2be.me" created LoginName. "free2be.me" example is:
- Is ten characters long so it fits the rule of between eight and fifteen characters
- Contains eight alphabetical characters: f,r,e,b, and m
- Contains one numerical character: 2
- Contains one allowed special character: . (the dot character)
Why is LoginName not called UserName?
This is because UserName had been prior used in conjunction with Affiliate Name for referral links. That UserName was publicly shared and is not consider secured enough to be used for login purposes.
In order to differentiate between that legacy UserName, the term LoginName is used for login purposes instead.
This feature was active on September 1st, with an email announcement sent to all members on August 31st, 2021.
New LoginName as login ID:
Starting at 1.4.8, all members will be requested to register a new LoginName upon successful login. Each member can choose a unique name not already taken or in use by another member. This name cannot be changed. On September 28th, 2021 memberID cannot be used to login. All members must login with their new LoginName and password.
Another email reminder was sent on September 1st, September 14th, and September 28th, 2021.
Between September 1st and September 28th, 2021, any member who successfully log in to Advanced Mining services and does not have a LoginName was presented to the wizard to create a LoginName.
NOTE: LoginName is meant to be private. Do not share your LoginName with anyone. After September 28th October 14th, 2021, MemberID login will be disabled. Members can only use this newly registered LoginName to log in.
Why are we disabling MemberID as valid login ID?
MemberIDs are also shared by members for the referral program. We have seeing increased attempts of unauthorized users trying to gain access to members' accounts with memberIDs that had been shared with them.
By creating a private LoginName that is not shared for the purpose of only logging in, unauthorized users will no longer be able to try to attempt to gain access to a member's account with known MemberIDs.
NOTE: Due to many members who have not yet logged in between September 1st and September 28th, and created their LoginName, on October 5th, we are temporarily re-allowing MemberID to log in to the system until 11:59:59 PM October 13th, 2021. During this time, members who have not yet created their LoginName will be directed to create one upon successful login.
What if I did not create my LoginName by October 13th?
Starting October 14th, 2021, any member who does not comply with this new profile requirement will not be able to log in with their member ID. They will need to request assistance via the Help Center to make the necessary profile changes and will accrue a $50 service fee.
